A quote calculator for Tenpo that shows customers exactly how much their recipient abroad will receive, before they commit to sending money.
More customers completed a transfer once they could see the full cost upfront.
Exchange rate, commission, and total received shown before the customer sends.
Shipped to Tenpo's full user base across web and native apps.
Tenpo is a Chilean fintech app with 2.2M+ active users, offering a prepaid card and core banking features like accounts, wallet, transfers, and cashback. A large share of its customers are immigrants living in Chile who regularly send money to family abroad.
International transfers existed in the app, but customers couldn't see the real cost of sending money until deep into the flow. The exchange rate, commission, and final amount received were revealed late, which made the feature feel unpredictable and led people to abandon it.
As Senior UI Designer, I designed the remittance quote calculator: a simple upfront view that shows exactly how much a recipient abroad will receive before the customer commits to sending.
Sending money abroad meant entering an amount and only finding out the real cost, exchange rate, and what the recipient would actually receive several steps later. For a feature centered on trust — people sending money to family who depend on it — that uncertainty was a dealbreaker.
Behind the simple "send money" flow was real complexity: a live exchange rate, a variable commission, and multiple currency pairs, none of which was communicated clearly before the customer had already started the transfer.
Let customers see exactly what they'll pay and what their recipient will receive, before they commit to sending a single transfer.
Customers didn't understand the commission or exchange rate markup until they were already mid-transfer.
Because the rate wasn't locked upfront, customers couldn't tell their recipient exactly how much to expect.
Many customers abandoned the flow once the real cost appeared later than expected.
We designed a quote calculator that comes first, not last. Customers enter how much they want to send, and immediately see the live exchange rate, the commission, and the exact amount their recipient will receive — all before starting the transfer.
The same view works across currency pairs, updates in real time as the customer adjusts the amount, and carries that same number all the way through to confirmation, so there are no surprises between quote and delivery.
The exact amount received, the fee, and the exchange rate are all shown before the customer starts a transfer.
Customers enter an amount in their local currency and instantly see what their recipient receives in theirs.
Built with Tenpo's existing design system so the calculator feels like a natural part of the app, not a bolt-on.
Delivered as part of the transfers feature set, alongside accounts, wallet, and cashback.
Shipped on native iOS and Android together, sharing components with the rest of the app for a consistent feel.
Used quote-to-send conversion data to refine copy, defaults, and currency pairs after the initial rollout.
